Heavy slack wax is one of the by-products of the process of converting

Lubricant into Slack Wax base oil. This process is such that first the aromatic compounds are separated from the lubcat using a solvent and the resulting product is called raffinate.

Then, in the second step, the paraffinic compounds are separated from the raffinate to turn into base oil. At this stage, a by-product called slack wax is produced, which is the feed of paraffin-making units.

The amount of oil can be from 5% to 30%. During the production of raw materials, the solvent extraction method is used to remove aromatics and the final product is raffinate.

The raffinate is then diluted with a solvent such as methyl ethyl ketone (Mek) to reduce its viscosity to reduce treatability at low temperatures. Then the diluted oil is cooled from -10 to -20 degrees Celsius.

Wax crystals are extracted by filtration, and the extracted wax is called slack wax, which is the raw material of paraffin, yellow or brown in color.

It is processed by pressing to reduce the oil content and changing the color through bleaching powders to produce paraffin.
